Bits and pieces

After many years breeding warm blood horses and Trakehners, our stud of abt. 20 ponies is now "upgraded" to a Dartmoor Pony stud. For parrents the temperament of the pony is essential. We looked for several years and when we found what we wanted we were not disappointed. The Dartmoor Pony I a very small breed in number and here in Denmark the amount of foals is now less than 30 a year. Statistically only 17 filly foals to continue the breed a year so it is hard to find mares of the best quality.

One of the highest ranked requirements in our aims of breeding the little, tuff pony is the “type”. Unfortunately we require a certain height to give the children pleasure of their ponies longest possible. Two very hard demands to obtain at the same time.  We have seen some of the best from the German breed as well as part of the best in Sweden. On an outstanding visit to the Dartmoor county  in 2005 at the convention, we got a lovely chance to see how a ”genuine”, good looking Dartmoorpony looks like and we will try hard to follow this aim. Our impression from these journeys in general, is that the Scandinavian “type” is rather close to the original from Dartmoor. Our aims are to follow the "British breeding standard"

The demand of broodmares of good quality in Denmark and abroad is bigger than the breed can deliver. On the contrary, the quality of the breed of colts at the stud is of such a good quality that our (now late) broodmare “Brown Star” has foaled to fully licensed stallions Klostermarkens Bonanza and Klostermarkens Bahama and broodmare Jubilee so far one sire i.e. Klostermarkens Juventus.

In Denmark we have bloodlines accepted in the UK and some are not. Both are very old in Denmark (nearly fifty years) and there are no differents in quality. The reason is some mistakes many generations ago.  We do actually not have any export from Denmark so it has no pratical effect.  Who knows maybe in the future things can be changed so that all the precious blood lines will be saved?

Inmatters of export, full pedigree can be printed out on any Danish born Dartmoor pony.
